Over The Top

Duped by the government's romanticised propaganda of the war in Europe, sixteen year old Billy lies about his age to enlist. What a time he's going to have - it'll be like being on a foreign holiday, but with guns!

Battle weary, a seasoned campaigner, sarge is as angry to have Billy join him in his Somme trench as he is to be under the command of also newly arrived, Captain Davis. Fresh out of Cambridge university, Davis has neither training nor experience. Offended by sarge's clear lack of confidence in him, Davis is more preoccupied with reigning in his NCO than fighting the Germans.

Taffy wants everyone to get on, he's always ready with a quip to lighten the mood. Dreaming of being reunited with his girl, Taffy is sure the war will soon be over.

Flynn arrives out of nowhere, he's welcomed as additional help. But why isn't the new man familar with procedures and equipment?

Based on true stories, this is a tale about courage, bravery and monumental stupidity.
